The Centre for Applied Social Sciences (CASS) in the University of Tartu was established in the EuroCollege in 2007 as a result of co-operation between the following institutions: the Faculties of Economics, Social Sciences, Law, Science and Technology; the Chairs of Human Geography and Regional Planning, the Faculty of Education, UT's Pärnu College and the EuroCollege. In 2008 the Faculty of Education joined the CASS network and the Rector's Office started base financing of the programme. CASS's development plans are based on the development plan for the University of Tartu until 2015, the science and development programme of the University of Tartu in socialia field 2005-2015, and rules and regulations of the EuroCollege.

Quality and mission of CASS

A fundamental goal of CASS is to offer society high-quality applied research and analyses in social sciences. The purpose of CASS is to raise the relative importance of sustainable strategic planning based on knowledge in society. That includes policy, legislative drafting, education, economy, health and environment protection, and regional planning. CASS is the knowledge organisation of a network type and co-operation division in the University of Tartu. CASS tries to find solutions to social problems in co-operation with the best social scientists and study groups. The goal is to accomplish social-scientific application research, analyses and consultation in the course of local and international research projects.
